The Functional Skills English programme is designed to help adults develop practical communication skills that can be used confidently in everyday life, the workplace and further study.

Whether you want to improve your reading and writing, gain a recognised qualification, increase your employment opportunities, or build confidence in communication, this course provides a supportive learning environment to help you achieve your goals.

Courses are available from Entry Level 1 through to Level 2, allowing learners to start at the level that best suits their needs.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. Learners will complete an initial assessment prior to starting the course, and will be placed on a level suitable to their starting point.

Learners will complete 3 exams set at the level you are studying:

  • a reading exam,

  • a writing exam,

  • and a speaking, listening and communicating exam
